Served two tours on Menard; 1945-1946 and again 1950-52 under Captain Joseph Finnegan. Worked in boatswain locker at bow. Worked with Mr. Forte who later became Chief Boatswain Mate. I would be interested in seeing a crew listing of the first division during these periods.

I am looking for information on my dad. If anyone knows Melvin Kile, please write to me. I would appreciate it. My dad's favorite hobby was playing Steel guitar. He grew up in Flint, MI-he was a second loader on a 5 inch gun. He was assigned to the Manard on May 28th, 1945, and he participated in the occupation of troops on Nagasaki, Kyushu, Japan on September 24th, 1945. Any help, thanks alot!

I'm doing research on my fathers naval career. He served aboard the Menard and was aboard ship toward the end of WWII. Comments in his records note unloading while under attack April 1945 Okinawa Yellow Beach #1. I will try to send off for war records to get details to the events at that time. I also would like to know how to purchase a ball cap for the Menard. My father was James Franklin Pennington "Red". His rank at the time was Cox, M-1. Please Advise. Thank you. Mike Pennington

My father, Jack Williams, served on the Menard toward the end of WWII. I am trying to find out more about his naval experience and where the ship went while he was on it. He would never speak to me about the war. What little I know came from my mother, his mother and a few relatives. This site was quite a find. Evidently the stories I heard about Okinawa and Nagasaki were true, which is something of a revelation for me. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may have known my dad. Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work.
