My grandfather was Claude Hartman (pappy). He passed away a few years ago. I always remember him telling me when I was a little girl how he was one of the oldest on the ship. I think that he went to a reunion back in 1991. He really enjoyed the reunion. We miss him dearly.

My Dad, Raymond B Daigle, Jr., was on the USS Menard during WW11. He is alive and well and lives in Orleans, Cape Cod, Mass. He is happy to hear of this site. I have downloaded the book for him. If anyone wants to get in touch with him, please feel free to write to me and I will forward his information on or if there is a place here on this site that I can put it, please let me know. He would love to hear from anyone from the ship.

My Dad (Horace C "Buck" Linville) was on the USS Menard. I was reading some correspondence the other day written on July 1, 1951 from the Menard. I was touched that my Dad had kept this all these years. He passed away a few years ago and is missed every day by my sister and myself. I do not have all his pictures but am trying to put together a book for my children and my nephews. Two pictures include two shipmates named Jake Jacobson and Bob Danner. I assume they are taken on the Menard. This is a wonderful site!!! Thanks so much and blessings to all.

My grandfather is Edward N Brandt, 96, of Oklahoma. He served aboard during WWII. We heard many stories growing up, but he is battling Alzheimers and those stories are now locked away. I am so happy to have found this website so that I can learn more about a small piece of his life. Thank you!

Came across this just awhile ago looking at information on the ship that my grandfather had told me about. Joseph W Messex is my grandfather he served 1943-1946, he passed away back in 2005. He used to tell me all these wonderful stories about his time on the ship some I remember and some I have forgotten.
